STUDENT CARE & SUPPORT
The Division of Student Affairs and Student Life recognizes its responsibility to cultivate a welcoming, supportive, and affirming environment that instills a sense of belonging in an ever-changing campus community. Individualized student care and support is a crucial part of cultivating that environment. Many resources are available to students experiencing a crisis or obstacle keeping them from achieving success.
Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT)
Texas A&M University is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our students on and off campus. With a large university community of over 70,000 students, Texas A&M University and the Division of Student Affairs realize that crises, or critical incidents, will occur and that these crises can have a significant impact. Such critical incidents will require an effective and timely response.
To address these situations or critical incidents, the Division of Student Affairs office coordinates a Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). The team, comprised of specialized, professional staff members, can be reached 24 hours per day, year-round, including weekends, holidays and University closures. CIRT team members work to assist students quickly after critical incidents occur, identifying resources, providing support, and helping students stabilize life circumstances so that they may return to their academic pursuits.
Examples of crises/critical incidents:
- Injury/Student Involved Accident
- Hospitalization
- Death of a student
- Fire at student residence (on and off campus)
To activate CIRT, please contact the Texas A&M University Police Department at 979.845.2345. If you are in an emergency, call 911.
