Graduate Assistant

Graduate Assistant

This position is responsible for presentations to student organizations, assisting with the WRC’s pregnant and parenting initiatives, and assisting the Program Coordinator with large-scale programs.  The graduate assistant will be supervised by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) Coordinator and will work in collaboration with all WRC staff. The graduate assistant position is a nine-month contract with an option for an extension to the summer.  The contract can be renewed yearly based on satisfactory performance in the role.

Duties
  • Coordinate marketing and development for the Women’s History Month Calendar
  • Coordinate the monthly 1st Thursday speaker series in partnership with the Aggie Women Network
  • Coordinate the Breastfeeding Welcomed Here Campaign
  • Assist with Pregnant and Parenting Initiatives
  • Assist with the coordination of the Elect Her: Aggie Women Win Conference
  • Serve as secondary advisor to the American Association of University Women
  • Serve as a Salary Negotiation Facilitator
  • Give presentations on topics related to women’s issues
  • Assist the Department with outreach efforts including staffing resource tables at university events
  • Serve on Offices of the Dean of Student Life Committees as appropriate
  • Some night and weekend requirements
  • Other opportunities as they arise
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled full-time Texas A&M University graduate student who is taking coursework and graduating no earlier than May 2020
  • Must be in good standing with the University (Texas A&M University Student Rules, 27)
  • Ability to complete 20 hours/week from 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday-Friday
  • Available some nights and weekends
  • Comfortable working in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Possess valid driver’s license
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as the ability to deliver quality customer service (online or in person)
  • Have a professional attitude and a friendly, positive approach
  • Be a problem-solver and self-starter who enjoys working in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate an interest in the Center’s overall mission and goals
Time Commitment

20 hours/week

$13.25/hr

Student Employee

Student Employee

This position will provide support to all WRC programs and events through program marketing plan coordination, social media content support, and coordination of the WRC newsletter.  In addition, the student employee will assist with the management of WRC programs.  The student employee will be supervised by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) Coordinator and will work in collaboration with all WRC staff.

Duties
  • Work with other WRC staff to determine social media marketing timelines for WRC programs and events, and execute timelines on social media
  • Curate all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram) to maintain active and engaging interactions with the University community
  • Research events and organizations which are relevant to women and promote those events and organizations on the WRC social media platforms and newsletter
  • Develop content for the WRC newsletter which is published monthly
  • Manage distribution of the WRC newsletter
  • Assist with the planning and execution of Elect Her: Aggie Women Win, the International Women’s Day Conference, and the WRC’s Pregnant & Parenting Initiatives
  • Serve as a backup presenter for the Coordinator and Graduate Assistant when they are not able to present
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and scheduling services such as Hootsuite
  • Photography skills preferred, but not required, including experience with a DSLR camera
  • Currently enrolled Texas A&M University student graduating no earlier than May 2019
  • Must be in good standing with the University (Texas A&M University Student Rules, 27)
  • Ability to complete 10 hours/week from 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday-Friday
  • Available some nights and weekends

Internships

Internship Requirements

Individuals interested in pursuing an internship at the Women's Resource Center must be currently enrolled University students seeking credit hours for the internship.  Students are expected to work with the individual coordinating internships in the College from which they are seeking credit to ensure that they are able to get credit for completing a Women's Resource Center Internships.  If you are unsure of who your coordinator is, ask your academic advisor.  Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week on a set schedule between the hours of 8 am to 5pm Monday - Friday unless arrangements are made with the Women's Resource Center Program Coordinator.  All internships are unpaid.

Basic Skills/Qualifications:

Ideal candidates for all internships will demonstrate the following:

  • Currently enrolled Texas A&M University student
  • Student must be seeking academic credit for the internship
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as ability to deliver quality customer service (online or in person)
  • Have a professional attitude and friendly, positive approach
  • Be a problem-solver and self-starter who enjoys working in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate an interest in the Center’s overall mission and goals

Opportunities

Elect Her Student Liaison Internship: Fall/Summer

The Elect Her Student Liaison will be supervised by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) Program Coordinator and will work in collaboration with all WRC staff.  This position will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Elect Her: Aggie Women Win Workshop.  This is an academic year-long internship.  During the fall semester, the Elect Her Student Liaison will work with the Elect Her Committee to plan the workshop which is held in November.  After the workshop is complete, the Elect Her Student Liaison will be responsible for designing the following year’s Elect Her marketing campaign.

Intern Duties:
  • Research and schedule speakers including members of the Texas State House of Representatives, Campaign Managers, and Student Government Association leaders
  • Research and communicate with caterers
  • Assist with designing and providing content for the Elect Her: Aggie Women Win webpage
  • Attend Elect Her Committee meetings
  • Design marketing campaign
  • Develop provide content for the WRC newsletter which is published monthly
  • Other duties as assigned

1st Thursday Coordinator: Fall/Summer

The 1st Thursday Coordinator will assist with the planning of the Fall Women’s Leadership Reception and 1st Thursday Events.  The Women’s Leadership Reception and 1st Thursday Events are a partnership between the Aggie Women Network, a constituent network of The Association of Former Students, and the Women’s Resource Center.  The Women’s Leadership Reception is an annual event highlighting the contributions of current and former Aggie Women.  1st Thursday Events are held each month during the academic year, and promote discussion of issues related to women students.  This position will be supervised by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) Program Coordinator and will work in collaboration with all WRC staff.

Intern Duties:
  • Research and schedule speakers for 1st Thursday Events
  • Develop marketing plan and content for 1st Thursday Events
  • Develop content for 1st Thursday Events on the WRC webpages
  • Develop content for 1st Thursday Events for the WRC Newsletter
  • Outreach to TAMU women’s student organizations
  • Serve as the student liaison on the Women’s Leadership Reception Planning Committee
  • Other duties as assigned

Pregnant & Parenting Initiatives Coordinator Internship: Spring/Summer

The Pregnant & Parenting Initiatives Intern will be supervised by the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) Program Coordinator and will work in collaboration with all WRC staff.  This position will be responsible for locating resources available to pregnant and parenting students on the Texas A&M Campus and surrounding community and disseminating information about these resources.

Intern Duties:
  • Research resources available to pregnant and parenting students at Texas A&M University and in the surrounding community
  • Providing content for webpages related to pregnant and parenting resources and programs
  • Redevelopment of the Little Aggie, a resource guide for parenting students
  • Redevelopment of the childcare listing to help student parents find childcare
  • Develop provide content for the WRC newsletter which is published monthly
  • Other duties as assigned
