STUDENT ABSENCE NOTIFICATION
Student Assistance Services (SAS) can serve as a liaison for students in critical and/or life-altering situations where students are unable to communicate with their faculty. The Student Absence Notification is designed to serve as a central point of contact for students who need to notify their instructors when an absence is due to an emergency and requires missing class for an extended period of time (usually more than three class days).
If the student is physically unable to submit the form, someone else may submit the request on their behalf. In the event a student is hospitalized for any reason, the student is encouraged to make an appointment with a SAS staff member to discuss their return to classes. SAS can ensure follow-up services are provided or assist with student withdrawal if needed.
Non-emergency absences should be addressed with your instructors directly.
Requests pertaining to COVID will not be approved. The university has established a protocol for COVID-related absences and you are encouraged to follow the outlined protocol. For more information visit COVID-19 Guidance for Students. If your instructor does not accept your documentation, contact your college's dean delegate regardless of the class you need assistance with.
PLEASE NOTE: Issuing a Student Absence Notification does not "excuse" the absence, nor serves as a request for the absence to be excused, regardless of the reason. Instructors have the authority to excuse absences based on the documentation you provide. For more information about excused absences, please refer to the course syllabus, speak directly with the instructor, or review Student Rule 7.
