STUDENT ABSENCE NOTIFICATION

Student Assistance Services (SAS) can serve as a liaison for students in critical and/or life-altering situations where students are unable to communicate with their instructors. The Student Absence Notification is designed to serve as a central point of contact for students who need to notify their instructors when an absence is due to an emergency and requires missing class for an extended period of time (more than three class days).

ARE YOU ABLE TO CONTACT YOUR PROFESSORS VIA EMAIL?

If you can email your professors on your own you do not need a Student Absence Notification. Non-emergency absences, including acute illness, should be addressed with your instructors directly. Email your professors as soon as possible and include any related documentation. If you would like to speak with a SAS staff member, contact us here.

PLEASE NOTE: Issuing a Student Absence Notification does not "excuse" the absence, nor serves as a request for the absence to be excused, regardless of the reason. Instructors have the authority to excuse absences based on the documentation you provide. For more information about excused absences, please refer to the course syllabus, speak directly with the instructor, or review Student Rule 7.

ARE YOU EXPERIENCING AN EMERGENCY AND CANNOT CONTACT YOUR PROFESSORS?

If the student is physically unable to submit the form, someone else may submit the request on their behalf. In the event a student is hospitalized for any reason, the student is encouraged to make an appointment with a SAS staff member to discuss their return to classes. SAS can ensure follow-up services are provided or assist with student withdrawal if needed.

DOES YOUR ABSENCE RELATE TO A POSITIVE TEST OR BEING A CLOSE CONTACT TO COVID-19?

If you have tested positively for or were exposed to COVID-19, work directly with your instructors and do not submit a Student Absence Notification.
