SCHOLARSHIPS

There are various scholarships available to members of the LGBTQ+ community, both internal and external to Texas A&M University. Information is available below on the Brian Allen '90 Scholarship, as well as scholarships available through Out for Education and the Point Foundation.

Brian Allen '90 Scholarship

Established in 2021, the Brian Allen '90 Scholarship is designed to support incoming and current students at Texas A&M University who have demonstrated support for the LGBTQ+ community. Two scholarship recipients will be selected for $1500 each for the academic year.

Eligibility
Incoming and current Texas A&M University students who demonstrate their support for the LGBTQ+ community through:
• Extracurricular activities
• Leadership positions
• Volunteering or advocacy

Preference is given to students who:
• Demonstrate academic merit
• Demonstrate financial need

Out for Education Scholarship

The Out for Education Scholarship, formerly the PFLAG/HATCH Youth Scholarship Foundation, is a combination of two scholarship programs previously offered by community organizations in Houston. Out For Education is one of the most successful LGBTQIA+ scholarship-granting foundations in the United States, dedicated to the purpose of providing LGBTQIA+ scholarships to Houston-area LGBTQIA+ youth. Having given over 350 LGBTQIA+ scholarships valued at $1.7 million dollars, Out For Education’s contribution to Houston’s LGBTQIA+ youth is fundamental to the continued development and re-affirmation of their self-concept. Out For Education believes that, by assisting our LGBTQIA+ youth in their education, we are providing a vibrant future for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Eligibility

  • Identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or be the child of a member of the LGBTQIA+ community;
  • Attending or has attended a Houston-area (which includes Harris or a contiguous county) high school, college, or trade school.
  • A GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.0 GPA from current or last school attended.
  • Provide an official transcript at the end of each academic year to be eligible for continued disbursement of funds for the following academic year (if eligible).
  • Successful interview (if selected after application review)

Point Foundation Scholarships

As an LGBTQ foundation, the Point Foundation empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – so they can better make a significant impact on society. These scholarships provide financial support, a community of peers, leadership training, and mentorship, to US college students from around the world. Point scholars and work improve the equity and representation of LGBTQ people in nearly every industry, ensuring that LGBTQ people have a voice and are provided equal access and opportunity in every sector. This foundation offers community college scholarships, as well as scholarship programs for students earning undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees.

Scholarships

  • Flagship Scholarship
    Must be a high school senior or a higher grade enrolled or intending to enroll in an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral program at an accredited college or university in the United States.
    Application Window: October 26-December 21, 2023

  • Community College Scholarship
    A community college scholarship for students in the US planning to either 1) transfer to a bachelor’s degree or 2) graduate with an associates degree within 2 years.
    Application Window: November 3-January 4, 2023

  • BIPOC Scholarship
    For LGBTQ-identified Black, indigenous, and people of color enrolled or intending to enroll at a US accredited community college, four-year college/university, or graduate program.
    Application Window: September 14-October 16, 2022
