LGBTQ+ PRIDE CENTER
What is LGBTQ+ Awareness Week?
LGBTQ+ Awareness Week is an opportunity to educate the Texas A&M campus about LGBTQ+ issues as well as to recognize, honor, and celebrate sexual and affectional diversity and gender variance in our communities. The week is held annually during the first week of April, March 27 - April 1, 2023. Awareness Week is designed to highlight the progress that the university has made in recognizing the LGBTQ+ community since the historic Gay Student Services vs Texas A&M University decision allowing for the first LGBTQ+ student organization to be recognized on the Texas A&M campus in 1985.
How does the LGBTQ+ Pride Center Celebrate LGBTQ+ Awareness Week?
To celebrate, the LGBTQ+ Pride Center invites university organizations, departments, committees and any personnel to provide programming for LGBTQ+ Awareness Week. Possible programs may include, but are not limited to lectures, discussion panels, workshops, film screenings, displays and performances. Events should be in line with the latest social distancing guidelines from the government and university officials; we recommend people hold events virtually. Feel free to get creative!
To ensure Texas A&M University is aware of all the great programs that will be available, the LGBTQ+ Pride Center will publish an online LGBTQ+ Awareness Week calendar at the end of March detailing all the week’s events. The calendar will include dates, times, locations and hosting organizations for all events.
How to Participate:
Host a program of your choice related to LGBTQ+ topics anytime during the week of March 27 - April 1, 2023! The LGBTQ+ Pride Center will facilitate marketing for events by publishing them in a print calendar and online.
To advertise your event on the calendar, complete the online form by Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. The LGBTQ+ Pride Center staff will review all submissions to ensure they align with the purpose of LGBTQ+ Awareness Week and will select programs at our discretion.
No submissions will be accepted for the following times: Friday, March 31 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. This time has been blocked for the Pride Center’s production of the Coming Out Monologues, respectively.
