CLASS ABSENCE NOTIFICATION:
The Student Welfare Office will only notify the Academic Dean's office of each student's major college for
every reported student absence considered excused by the university
(see http://student-rules.tamu.edu/rule7.htm for a complete list of acceptable reasons).
Students are responsible for contacting individual instructors to arrange make-up work and to provide additional documentation explaining
the reason for the absence, if requested to do so. Instructors do not have to allow students to make up work missed for unexcused absence.
PERSONAL COUNSELING REFERRALS:
The Student Welfare Office can contact, on behalf of the
student, Student Counseling Services, Alcohol and Drug Education
Programs, Women's & Gender Equity Resource Center and/or other community services for
assistance in arranging emotional or personal counseling support.
ASSISTANCE IN CONTACTING ROOMMATES:
The Student Welfare Office will contact student's roommates to
inform them, in general, of a student's absence from the room or apartment.
ACCOMMODATIONS FOR TEMPORARY AND/OR PERMANENT DISABILITIES:
Disability Services can assist students in
arranging for academic accommodations. For students living on campus, the
Dean's Office can contact Residence Life for assistance in arranging
accessible housing. Off campus students can work with Student Life
Off
Campus Student Services for assistance and advocacy in arranging
accommodations in their off campus housing.
ACADEMIC REFERRAL SERVICES:
The Student Welfare Office provides referral information for students who might want some assistance in making
decisions about continuing courses, refund schedules and deadlines.
WITHDRAWING FROM SCHOOL:
The Student Welfare Office advises students on the Texas A&M official withdrawel process and can help the student
and/or their family members coordinate this process, if needed.
ASSISTANCE IN CONTACTING AND COORDINATING FAMILY NEEDS:
The Student Welfare Office can serve as a contact point for
families. This might include answering questions about University Rules and policies,
gathering information about the student or helping a family find comfortable
accommodations.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
Students with responsibilities or involvement in extracurricular activities,
such as clubs, recreational sports, or on campus employment, may request the
Student Welfare Office notify advisors and/or employers of
unexpected absence.

these or other issues, simply call 845-3113 between the hours of 8:00 a.m
and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or via e-mail at studentlife@tamu.edu.
In the event of an after-hours emergency, individuals should contact the
University Police Department (845-2345) and request that the Student Affairs
Critical Incident Response Team be contacted.
