Student Organizations

 

The following groups may be of particular interest to Adult, Graduate & Off Campus Students:

Off Campus Aggies (OCA) 
OCA is an enthusiastic organization designed to promote involvement of off campus students. OCA serves as a representative group addressing special issues and needs of off campus students. For more information call 845-0688.

Graduate Student Council (GSC) 
GSC exists to share and discuss information important to Texas A&M University graduate and professional students and to serve as an advocate for their interests within the University community. Department representatives are elected by academic departments every year. Every department is entitled to one voting representative and one alternate member. However, meetings are open to all interested parties. General meetings are held every first and third Tuesday of each month. For more information, contact the GSC office at 862-1974

Specific goals of GSC include: to represent all graduate and professional students by identifying and advocating their interests on graduate issues; to be recognized as representing a unique population within the University system; to facilitate communication on graduate issues within the University community; and to enhance the graduate experience through social and service opportunities.

GSC also works closely with Student Government to insure that graduate student issues are represented and addressed through student legislation and on University Committees. For more information call 862-1974 or go by their office at 138 Koldus.

Aggies Plus
Aggies Plus (formerly known as The New Traditional Students or TNTs) is a student organization that exists for the purpose of integrating new or returning non-traditional students into student life. Aggies Plus schedules year-round activities, such as dinner clubs and other social events, and participate in service events as well.  Aggies Plus membership is open to the student body, and faculty and staff of Texas A&M University. You can call our office at 845-1741 or come by Cain Hall, Room C114 for more information.

Aggies With Kids
Aggie With Kids is also a student organization for current Texas A&M Students who happen to have kids of their own. Children are always welcome at events and activities.

Texas A&M Veteran's Association (TAMU-VA)
TAMU-VA is available to assist Veteran, Active Duty, Retired, and Reservist members of the U.S. Armed Forces transition to a student atmosphere while attending Texas A&M University. TAMU-VA provide these students with a voice in the Texas A&M University System and promotes unity among the members and provide service to the University and community.

Note: There is also a Veterans Engineering and Technological Society


Company V-1:  Corps of Cadets
Interested in being involved in the Corps at Texas A&M University, but your not the traditional freshman living on campus?  There is a unique unit of the Corps that is comprised of men and women who may have prior service, are married, or just live off-campus.  For more information contact Freddy Sustaita, Recruiting Officer (847-0356 in Corps Lounge C -or- 779-2327 at home).

University Apartments and University Apartments Community Council (UACC)
University Apartments has their own programming office coordinated by a full-time staff member and graduate assistant who plan activities for the residents.  In addition UACC, a student/tenant organization for the residents of the University Apartments exists to provide quality programming for the tenants of the Apartment community.  For more information about programs in University Apartments contact the Programming office at 845-2350.

Greek Life
Texas A&M is home to 52 different fraternities and sororities.  Students interested in becoming involved in the Greek Life experience either as a new member or as alumnae should call the Office of Greek Life at 862-5636 or come by Cain Hall, Room C202.

Networks
Networks seeks to promote a greater awareness and understanding of disabilities at Texas A&M University. The purpose of the group is twofold: (1) to break down architectural, informational, and attitudinal barriers on campus through education and (2) to serve as a support system for students with disabilities. Networks members are available to speak on a variety of disabilities related topics. Anyone in the University community interested in disability related issues can become a member.  Contact Disability Services at 845-1637 or stop by Cain Hall, Suite B118 for more information.

Aggie Orientation Leader Program (AOLP)
Orientation Leaders (OL’s) are an integral part of the new student conferences scheduled over the summer for the coming Fall semester and in January for the Spring semester. These conferences aid students in adjusting to the college experience and Aggie culture. For more information on becoming an OL, call 845-5826 or come by the New Student Programs office in Cain Hall, Room B115.

Responsible Aggie Decisions (RAD)
Working with Alcohol & Drug Education Programs (ADEP), these student volunteers promote responsible decision-making concerning alcohol issues to the Texas A&M community. Contact ADEP at 845-0280 (Cain Hall, C114) for more information.

The Department of Student Activities is responsible for developing, advising, and coordinating student activities through student organization recognition and funding. The department can provide information on any of the following areas: Fish Camp, T-Camp, Howdy Camp, KANM Student Radio, Student Government, Parent's Weekend, Muster, Freshman Programs (Fish Aides), and numerous other organizations at Texas A&M.

Included within this department are the Vocal Music Office (003 MSC), the Student Organization Finance Center (217 MSC), and Student Government (126 Koldus).  The Vocal Music Office is the headquarters for the vocal music groups (i.e. Singing Cadets, Women’s Chorus, Century Singers, and Reveliers), which represent the University throughout the year in concerts on campus and throughout the state, performing at A&M Clubs and Mother’s Clubs.  The Student Organization Finance Center handles the financial services for all recognized student organizations on campus (i.e. training and education on reconciliation of student organizations monthly statements, workshops detailing payment procedures and signature requirements, etc.).  Student Government supports and promotes the development of student through leadership in student organizations such as parent’s Weekend, Muster, Big Event, Student Senate, Traditions Council, TAMC (Texas Aggies Making Changes) and COSGA (Conference on Student Government Associations).  The Department is also establishing a community service volunteer database for campus and community services organizations.

The Department also offers for-credit learning opportunities.  Freshman Leadership Development Seminars are offered through the Department of Educational Human Resource Development (EHRD).  These course are designed for entering students who are interested in broadening their leadership experience while at Texas A&M.   Additionally, topical leadership courses (i.e. Leadership and Legal Issues, Leadership of the Civil Rights Movement, Management of Student Organizations, etc.) are also offered.

The twenty-six committees of the MSC Programs Office provide special events for the entire campus community. Committees include: Black Awareness Committee - Committee for the Awareness of Mexican American Culture (CAMAC) - Cepheid Variable (Sci-Fi committee) - Film Society - Hospitality - L. T. Jordan Institute - Literary Arts - MBA/Law Committee - Opera & Performing Arts Society (OPAS) - Student Conference on National Affairs (SCONA) - Town Hall - Visual Arts - Wiley Lecture Series - Current Issue Awareness (CIA) - Conversations - Asian Cultures Education (CACE)  - Recreation -Academic League - ICONS - E.L. Miller lecture series - Abott Family Leadership - Aggie Leaders of Tomorrow (ALOT) - Leadership Experience and Programs (LEAP). The SPO also offers several leadership programs such as the Fall Leadership Conference and the Spring Leadership Trip. 

Open House, an event sponsored by the MSC Student Programming Office, is held the first weekend of each semester in the Memorial Student Center.  This event features booths and displays by recognized student organizations an opportunities to talk with current members.
