Within 48 hours of the time you move into your rental property, you
must complete an inventory form which lists the condition of the property. The
report should be very detailed. Be as specific as possible describing the
condition of the apartment. For example, include the number of ice trays, nail
holes or marks in the walls, and the condition of floors, ceilings, fixtures,
furniture, appliances, etc.
- Check for any signs of insects or pests.
- Check security items such as locks, windows, and smoke alarms.
- Check that everything is working properly such as, toilets, light
fixtures, fans, dishwasher, etc...
- If your lease states that the management is responsible for pest control,
make sure the place has been exterminated recently.
- Have your manager sign and date the inventory form and keep a signed
original copy for your files.
A sample inventory form is available in
PDF Format or can be found in the
Off Campus Survival Manual.

If any item is in need of repair, be sure to complete a
Request for Repair. Indicating damage or maintenance issues on a
Move-in Inventory is not considered an official notice of request for repair.
DO NOT MOVE INTO your residence if it is not in acceptable condition
(clean and safe) or does not meet the conditions you and the management agreed
upon in writing.
