Responsible Partying

You can have fun, entertain your friends, relax, and yes, even drink alcoholic beverages all without violating the law, annoying your neighbors, or getting the police involved. We’ve provided you with some helpful information to make sure that your party is fun and safe.

 

Party Tips
  • Have alternative transportation arranged; Post CARPOOL’s number (693-9905)
  • Be considerate of your neighbors
  • Know your guests
  • Know your lease regulations
  • Have nonalcoholic drinks available
  • Have non-salty food available

 

State Laws
Providing Alcohol to a Minor

Even if a minor is at your house and not drinking, if they have access to alcohol such as an open keg, then you could be in violation of this law.
Class A Misdemeanor - fine up to$4000, as well as up to 1 year in jail and 180-day driver’s license suspension

MIP (Minor in Possession)

It is illegal for a minor to have possession or have access to alcohol beverages unless in the visible presence of an adult parent, guardian or spouse.
Class C Misdemeanor - fine of up to $500, as well as an alcohol awareness class, community service and 30-days up to 180-days driver’s license suspension

PI (Public Intoxication)

Appearing in a public place while intoxicated so much that a person may endanger him/herself or another person.
Class C Misdemeanor - fine of up to $500

Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in Motor Vehicle

Neither the passenger nor the driver may have an open container of alcohol in the car.
Class C Misdemeanor - fine of up to $500

DUI (Driving Under the Influence)

It is illegal for a minor to operate a motor vehicle in a public place while having any detectable amount of alcohol in his or her system.
Class C Misdemeanor - fine of up to $500, as well as community service and 30-day driver’s license suspension

DWI (Driving While Intoxicated)

A person commits a DWI if the person has a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher or not having the normal use of mental or physical faculties while operating a motor vehicle.
Class B Misdemeanor - fine up to $2000, as well as community service and 72 hour minimum confinement

 

Signs of Alcohol Poisoning
  • Person is unconscious, cannot be woken up, or can only be awakened for a short time
  • Difficulty standing or walking
  • Person is poorly aware of surroundings
  • Exhibits respiratory difficulties
  • Fever or chills
  • Fingernail beds or gums are bluish
  • Extremities are cold or clammy
  • Vomiting while semiconscious or unconscious
  • Increased, decreased, or irregular pulse


If you see any of the above signs call 911 immediately.
